Fiona Roberts

29 April to 17 May

Fiona Roberts is a fine artist creating landscapes around Great Britain.

She is inspired by the changes in light and sky lines from ethereal mist over mountains to ephemeral light on salt marshes. When clouds roll through a clear day the artist is given an opportunity to capture the qualities of a threshold environment, delineated by cloud. The moments before a storm, the immediacy of a light, glimpsed for seconds close to the ground and below the cloud base. The clouds, the horizon melting into the sea or fields, the sense of expanse and isolation. Fiona paints on hand stretched calico using traditional methods and renaissance recipes to make her own gesso, oil paints, dammar resins and varnishes.

The use of raw materials, pigments, hard resin lumps and purified oils to make the paint and glaze enriches the pieces with a resonance and quality that ensures that they will remain unchanged for hundreds of years.
