Calendar 2009

Painterly and atmospheric oil paintings of figures in the landscape and landscapes painted directly from the subject in East Anglia and Italy.  Emphasis on composition and drawing.

Arabella Crum Ewing

July 25 – August 12

Arabella Crum Ewing
Work from a particular project – the basic and elemental image of a hand, using paint instead of her usual medium of printmaking. Arabella lives in Saxmundham.

Anya King
Trained at Norwich and the Royal Academy Schools (MA), Anya works in oil and mixed media for her semi-abstract view of plants, animals and human life-cycles.

Kyle Gregg
This young Ipswich artist shows a series of intricate drawings, each one following the same set of rules e.g. having 50 lines, repeating the structure from a central point.

Alice Garland
Alice’s beautiful and delicate ceramics are becoming widely known especially in this area, her ‘home ground’. She has a studio in Cookley.

Anthony Giltrow
With no formal art education, influenced by Magritte, he has been painting with enthusiasm, in surreal mode, for some years. Anthony says “I find it difficult to say anything about my works in words”.

August 15 – September 2

Ruth McCabe
Began painting in 1997 with the guidance of tutor Julie Noad. Ruth responds to rounded and dance-like forms of subjects, landscape and animals, abstract and representational.

Miles Fairhurst
Main influences are the great East Anglian artists, concerned with light and atmosphere. Miles exhibits regularly with the Royal Society of Marine Artists and has works in world-wide collections.

Nawala Hoggett
Originally from Iraq, Nawala has lived in Suffolk for 20 years, training in design and textile art at Lowestoft and Ivy House. Her experiments with new techniques and materials also show Arabic influences.
